Review on Sangean SR-35 Black Pocket Analog AM/FM Radio by Larry Morris

I have a discontinued Sony s10. There is controversy over whether the replacement for the p26 is better or worse, with the s10 being sold at inflated prices. like the looks). The sound quality of Sangean is much better. Sangean's reception is either the same or better. The Sony speaker is so much weaker that it's actually hard to tell how much of the end result is due to the speaker or receiver. Keep in mind that I used the Sony with no ill will (the sound is similar to the latest equivalent RadioShack model), but now that I have the Sangean I really don't want to go back to the Sony or RadioShack. It's just better. In addition to performance, the Sangean uses a nice wide knob for tuning and volume instead of the typical thin dial found on every other radio. Then there is the antenna. These radios are primarily intended for handheld use, but if you plan to leave them on your desk while you listen, it would be nice if you could position the antenna. RadioShack pulls out and stays there. The Sony antenna rotates in one direction on a rotary screw. The Sangean rotates on a pivot and also has a pivot between the pivot and the radio for bi-directional adjustment. Also, like the old Sony s10, the Sangean case has a notch on the back edge where you can fold the antenna. The sleek new Sony p26 looks like the designer forgot that FM radio requires an external antenna, and the antenna had to be mounted on a small block sticking out from the back. Unlike the Sangean, the new Sony cannot lie on its back because the retracted antenna dangles backwards.
