When looking for a cover stapler I've tossed between this 3-needle 1000cpx and Brother. My main sewing machine is the Janome HD3000 and I was very impressed with its durability and stitch quality so I went with the Janome. I didn't think I needed a 3 needle option for the personal sewing I do (clothes for myself and my family) so I settled on this model. Having never used a sewing machine before, I wasn't sure how difficult it would be to learn how to use one. Fortunately, with a few exceptions, it was relatively easy. 1) You not only sew the end of the fabric like on an overlock or sewing machine, but there is a special process for separating the fabric. Watch YouTube videos and practice to get it right, but it only takes a few minutes to get used to it. 2) You sew from the right side of the fabric. I use a piece of blue masking tape to mark the length of the hem, but there are tips you will be given to ensure accuracy. 3) If you are working with a small piece (legs or smaller), it may be easier to hem on a flat surface (i.e. before you sew the legs or sleeves together) as the machine may have a free sleeve but not much room for work. In general, the machine is easy to use. The stitch quality is excellent, as with my other Janomes. First I realized my stitches skip joining seams even on lightweight fabrics. It took me a while to realize that the stitch length was set too short by default. Also note that the manual contains some errors, so be sure to check out the additional pages for corrections. For example, the sewing foot pressure section of the brochure is incorrect and has updated instructions on a separate sheet of paper. I am very excited to add this machine to my sewing workshop. It creates beautiful finishes with minimal effort. would recommend.
