My son has just turned three and loves handicrafts. We bought it for him and he loved taking photos. The main thing I noticed is that you only see the end result and all the pieces on their colorful sticky foam. You have to be careful to layer the pieces properly - as in one of these the entire shape of the tree (including the leaves and trunk) was brown. Then add an overall darker green leaf shape. Then add more light green leaf details. It's easy if you look closely at the foam panels, but a three-year-old, and probably most children until they're a few years older, wouldn't do it. It would be easy to see and apply the dark green base of the leaf, initially thinking the stem would be the only brown, but if you did you would have to either rip the green out of the picture, and probably rip it off, or board or put the brown top and lose dark green. There are no instructions and many circles, ovals and other shapes look very similar, so it's ok if you don't end up exactly like the picture. Also, with the four dinosaur pictures we made, there are LOTS of little parts - some so small that even as an adult I had a hard time pulling them out, finding the sticky side and sticking them in the picture and hoping that I stayed. Most forms are fine. However, due to the large number of parts, it takes quite a long time to assemble. My son is quite patient and enjoyed looking up the shapes in the final result image to see what we were doing, but even a very patient 3 year old who loves the craft was starting to need a bit of a nudge to finish. It's just a lot of pieces. It was a good craft and my son loves them and proudly displays them on our fridge; However, I think these projects are more suited to 5 or 6 year olds who have more patience and more ability to figure out how to put them together themselves.
