I bought an XS for my 9 lb chihuahua. The length of its back is about 12-13 inches. The coat went down his back which was great coverage! However, the sides were a bit loose and the velcro straps were sooo small. (Maybe about an inch piece of Velcro). So you can't even adjust it to make it tighter or looser. Inside the coat is a nice fluffy fleece. There are also leg straps but I don't use them. The coat usually stays in place at all times. I'm upset I had to return it because of all the coats I've had I really liked this one. So nothing wrong with this coat, my fur baby is tiny. But I wish the Velcro straps were bigger. Sometimes I add a layer and put on a sweatshirt and then a coat. Or, if I'm only wearing a coat, I might need to tighten it a bit. Therefore, it is important to be able to close the sides or not. I hope they change that!
