Review on HDV Z96 96 LED Light Kit by Sandy Taylor

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Worked well for night shots

I knew it was probably fake given the difference in price to what is sold on the F&V website (about $160) but I bought it anyway, based on external data. Reviews. This is my first light panel that I've bought for nightscapes and that's the basis of my review. First, for photographing the Milky Way and capturing a small object (like a tree), this light was too bright, even on the darkest settings. So I couldn't leave it on for the duration of the exposure. But it gave off an even light and was much easier to use than a flashlight. I'll have to see if a hit or something solves the brightness problem. On the other hand, at the brightest setting I was actually able to use my camera's autofocus, which I sometimes had to do if I accidentally moved the lens. So I brightened my subject, switched to auto focus, and then switched back to manual after the camera was activated. I've never managed to do that with the flashlights I used for light painting. The construction seemed normal - it's quite heavy. But again, this is my first panel so I have no reference point. I liked the orange filter - it helps counteract the blue of the LEDs. I bought batteries and am satisfied. Using alkaline batteries would be too tiring. However, you must first remove the battery cover before attempting to insert the battery. Otherwise the lock blocks. I'm glad I bought this. It remains to figure out how to dim the light.
