I've used them on about a dozen winter hikes in a variety of conditions (clear ice, hard snow and fresh snow) and they've worked great. Compared to some of the lighter lugs, they offer a lot more grip (not even comparable when trying to climb an incline). They're also more durable than some lightweight cleats (more rubber with higher coverage on show), making them harder to put on but providing a more secure fit. Overall I'd say these are a much better choice if you're going off-road/pavement than other lighter cleats.
