Review on Sony SRSBTM8 Portable Bluetooth Wireless by Brody Jacobs

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Runs on AA batteries and sounds great.

Bought this speaker a few weeks ago. I was attracted by the fact that it uses AA batteries. I use Eneloop batteries and I have a few of them. The thing is that with 99% of Bluetooth speakers, the problem is that if the internal battery dies, the speaker becomes unusable when it is not connected to the network. Conversely, a speaker that uses rechargeable AA batteries will last forever. So I was happy with that. But what really surprised me was the sound of this little guy. I tried it and I have some bluetooth speakers. And I'll tell you what: At a personal listening level, this unit sounds as good as $100 speakers. Honest. I've been listening to the JBL Flip 3, which everyone admires, and on a conversational level, it's probably just as good. (Actually, I prefer it.) I also have a Klipsch KMC3. This is the speaker that cost me a heck of a lot and it's worth the pounds. This is a large speaker that fills virtually the entire house with sound. But if you don't try, then this Sony is fantastic. While some speakers will tire your ears, it won't. The sound is open and "real". Previously, this column cost much more than its current price. But at the current price, it's a very good deal. Note: it doesn't like being far from a Bluetooth source (phone etc), but if you can live with that, that's pretty cool. I am very happy with it.

Pros
  • hands-free function
Cons
