I was keen to try bamboo toothbrushes instead of plastic toothbrushes, although my mother, a dental hygienist, advised me against it. Even if I brush very gently, my gums hurt for hours. I thought I would try for a few weeks if my gums just needed to get hard, but after about 3 weeks I had to stop. I started to feel constant sensitivity in some places, which was also very uncomfortable. A few months later I went through a routine cleaning and told my dentist that I had tried bamboo toothbrushes. She wasn't surprised that I had so many problems. These toothbrushes are very aggressive to the gums and probably caused the gums to droop, causing sensitivity. I hope there is another sustainable option for plastic toothbrushes, but it isn't.
