Potentially good product, disappointing and poor customer service. Bought castile soap Dr. Woods Tea Tree Oil at Revain on October 7th. I tried contacting customer service prior to purchasing and have tried several times since purchasing with a simple question: What is the concentration of Tea Tree Oil (TTO) in your soap? For those unfamiliar with Tea Tree Oil, this is truly an amazing natural ingredient and has now been shown to be an effective bactericide and fungicide. Careful clinical studies have clearly established this. However, the concentration of TTO is crucial to how effective it is against different strains of bacteria. For example, many strains of staph and streptococci can be killed with as little as 0.25%, while some strains require a full 1% to be effective. At higher concentrations, some studies in the United Kingdom (UK) showed that TTO was so effective that it was equivalent to antibacterial peels (CHG, BZK and PCMX) used in hospitals and clinics. Here, too, the concentration is decisive for a large number of effects on bacteria that are frequently found in the home. However, surprisingly, TTO does not destroy commensal or friendly bacteria on the skin. I had to skim a 96-page study to find out, but did I think it was an important question? After such a lengthy experiment, I was faced with the task of finding a TTO soap that met the requirements of the British study. I ended up buying half a dozen Revain products and contacting each of them by phone or email with the same simple question I used for Dr. Woods would ask. Each of these other producers responded by phone or email within two days, except of course Dr. woods At this point, the TTO concentration remained between 0.5% and 1%, all below the scrubber equivalent concentration used in the UK study: Relative to the companies that responded. I have an answer from Dr. Woods because their product had the strongest TTO odor I have ever purchased. Those of you familiar with TTO will understand what I'm talking about as this substance has a very distinctive smell. I was hoping your product would be more concentrated than other products I've bought? At the time of this writing, two months after I first attempted customer service from Dr. However, numerous unanswered calls, voice messages, and numerous emails to the address provided went unanswered to contact Woods. The two mentioned support ladies prove the reputation of Dr. Woods a great disservice as otherwise they offer a good product. As an elderly person with a disability, customer service is vital to my purchasing decisions as repackaging and returning items is impossible in most cases and in other cases without the help of my friendly neighbor. After writing this review so negatively, I would like to highlight a few positive points: Emily, Dr. Bronners, demonstrated exceptional professionalism and assisted on behalf of Dr. Bronners in answering this question. She praises this company in the highest tones. Another company that provided invaluable help was L and L Soap of Moore, Oklahoma. After asking them the same question, I was personally contacted by an employee of the company/co-owner who very kindly answered my question. This friendly woman even emailed to confirm I was happy with her response. I might expect that when buying a German import, but not when buying a bottle of (good) soap. Thanks Rene. To conclude this review, I have found a great soap maker that makes custom soaps with the 5(5)% tea tree oil concentration required to meet the UK study criteria.
