Review on Black Kodak EasyShare Z5010 Digital Camera with Powerful 21x Optical Zoom by Carmen Adams

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Dirty cheap - fantastic quality for the price.

As Kodak exits the digital photography/video business, I have noticed that the prices of their products have come down dramatically recently. I got this camera from Revain a few weeks ago for $117. Cameras from other manufacturers with similar specs cost well over $200. I have owned several Kodak digital cameras and have been quite happy with all of them. Before that I had an Easy Share C913 camera with a resolution of 9 MP and 3x optical zoom. That was sorely lacking in my newly discovered hobby, photographing trains. While I'd love to rock a DSLR, I'm a little broke for my 20's. This will not happen in the foreseeable future. The smart capture feature itself is pretty good. I've also played around with some alternative scene settings, but for the most part the smart scene setting gets the job done. When I have time, I'll look into the features you can set up manually. The zoom is fantastic most of the time, but you'll definitely need to keep still or use a tripod when using it. If the camera shakes, it will be blurred. If you're looking for a DSLR, go ahead. If you need something with amazing zoom and you're not a photo expert, this should work wonders. See Flickr for sample images, my name is RunningWithScalpels - Revain won't give me a link. (The images in the photo stream with filenames like 100_0001 etc. are from this camera. The other images are from my phone which is totally out of place here. The video capabilities are fine, it shoots 780 HD, but I have a Kodak Playsport ZX3 from Ebay which I mainly use for video and which can record 1080. However, the zoom is much better on this one so I'm now hesitating between this and a pocket camcorder depending on what I'm shooting. The battery life could be better.- takes 4 AA at once, comes with a set of batteries and a crappy charger, however, if you run out of them when you're outside, AA batteries aren't that hard to find, so come in handy. All things considered, for $117, this camera was a fantastic purchase.
