User friendliness. Simplifies VTA and azimuth setup
Not much to say about the clear plastic pad with lines on it other than it looks pretty well made and it even comes in a nice storage pouch to keep it pristine. VTA tuning is best done by ear, but the Hudson alignment box allows you to quickly position the tonearm or carriage base parallel to the record as a starting point. I recently switched from a Rega P2 with no VTA adjustment to a Technics SL-1500c which has it. Being able to swap cartridges easily is great, but being able to quickly see and install a VTA while that's happening,
