We mainly use them to freeze 3 very different foods. We love cranberry sauce on chicken sandwiches and discovered years ago how well it freezes. We've started making double triple batches over the holidays so we have enough to freeze for next year. Especially good and refreshing in the summer months. Also only good as a condiment for poultry, even pork, but mostly poultry. 2) REAL cream. We buy it by the half gallon because my husband makes his own ice cream. Yes, you can use frozen cream for ice cream, but it can be grainy. Turns out, frozen cream is still great for what we call quiches. This is not custard like you might think of custard in general. The term "pudding" in this case is a nod to the French term for pies, in which you can also add an egg/cream/milk/cheese base. So rhubarb, blueberry, etc. quiche in our world means 2 large eggs, usually mixed well with 1/4 cup heavy cream, add some thickener next to the egg, like cornstarch or flour or even a little tapica flour. Then mix with sugar, mix well, pour over the fruit and bake with or without the top layer of batter. It usually works best with a topper but I never use it with a blueberry tart to which I add some lemon zest and juice and the mixture. In fact, most of my cream tarts, even the apple and rhubarb tarts, contain a little lemon. And last but not least, it goes well with some types of cheese. Goat and blue cheese. We buy big cases of blue cheese like we do at Costco, and to ensure the freshness of our delicious chicken and celery salads, we divide the jars into these containers and freeze them in half-cup sizes. Half that or a quarter cup mixed with about 3-4 ounces of heavy sour cream with a little coarse sea salt to taste makes a fantastic blue cheese salad dressing that doesn't need anything other than a few pinches of black pepper to taste when serving the salad in individual pieces Peel. We never add dressings before individual servings. The leftover salad can almost always be saved for the next day as a starter or as a small split salad with the main menu if you don't have a large salad in the evening. The leftover dressing is often used quickly as a vegetable or salad dressing. These are the top three foods we freeze and store in these little jars. The good news is that they are not round. And for our under fridge freezer drawer this is great as you can stack three high and they stay together. I also sometimes fill these little snacks with nuts like smoked almonds to take on a hike and they stay fresh in my fridge or home freezer. But for now we use them for this and if these ideas can represent your imagination for your world, individual tastes and culinary habits. ALWAYS think outside the box and spread the joy of DIY. Life is too good not to take on challenges and as always my cup is half full if not full. Take care and stay healthy everyone.
