After hearing about the dangers of mercury fumes and dust in CFLs and seeing charts of how noisy CFLs are in terms of electronic "line noise" compared to LED bulbs, I decided to order these Cree Give away Power Bulbs 60 W. After replacing the chandelier in our dining room with several of these bulbs and trying them with a dimmer, I was very impressed with the light quality. There was no noticeable flicker, no hiss, and they faded very smoothly no matter how fast or slow I set them. I particularly liked that these bulbs have a rubberized coating around the bulb, which gives me the impression that even if my kids broke one, I wouldn't have to worry about sharp glass flying everywhere. I'm curious as to why the higher wattage Cree bulbs don't get good reviews and many of them fail. I wonder if they run hotter and have problems due to insufficient heat dissipation. Compared to those 60 watt bulbs that only use 9.5 watts of electricity, I'm glad these LED bulbs run cooler than the old CFL bulbs. I will gradually replace my entire house with these Crees. I cannot recommend them enough for their excellent light quality and warmer color temperature of 2700K. If I didn't know better, I'd assume it's the traditional 60W incandescent bulbs that burn out, not the 9.5W LEDs. LED technology is getting better and Cree is doing a great job bringing it to market.
