I've had numerous hard shell hooks over the years, but none of them met the design requirements. Either they were too cumbersome to assemble and disassemble due to the fasteners used, or because they all had a complex side door design that had retractable hinges on only one side. Storage side attachments that make connecting the bottom and top halves together a quick and easy affair (no ambiguity). No more fiddling with 10 screws and their wing nuts. For me as a renter of an apartment, the ease with which I can assemble and disassemble this trolley is important. I have limited storage space. So when I'm not using it, I store the strap unassembled with the top half upside down so it fits snugly against the bottom half. This halves the overall height of the carrier, making it much easier to store on a closet shelf. It also makes it easier to store items in the protected halves. 4 self-retaining fasteners are head and shoulders older than older designs that used 10 bolts and wing nuts. Door with retractable hinges on the left and right side of the door. This is a feature I've always looked for in previous carrier purchases but never been able to find - until now. The presence of retractable hinges on both sides of the door means that it can be opened left or right without having to reinstall the door. But more importantly, this design/feature greatly simplifies the assembly process. My previous porter's door only had retractable hinges on one side, which meant I had to juggle to fit the fixed hinges into the recesses of the top and bottom halves that weren't already attached to each other. Using porters with this older, more common design has led me to an interesting behavioral discovery over the years: the increase in assembly time has always been directly proportional to the increase in swear word use. Who knew?! With this holder you simply snap the two halves together and fold the 4 clips down into their locked position. Then press the latches on the left and right side sliding hinges on the side door, insert the door into the opening and release. Quick and easy with no swearing. If someone takes more than 30 seconds to put it together, then they are doing something wrong. It is so easy. For real. If I had only one gripe (if you can even call it that) it would be the way the top door is hinged. The hinges for the top door are on the long end, allowing it to open lengthwise instead of sideways. It's a really small thing that I probably shouldn't have even mentioned, considering every other aspect of this carrier's design is light years ahead of any other design I've seen and used in the last 35 years. On the plus side, the top door is thick tan plastic, transparent, and vented (I bought the brown/beige version). . The net effect of the final implementation of the upper door design is that it is functional and also makes the trunk look more inviting. To sum up, this trunk is durable and made with a well thought and executed design that caters to a lot more users. friendly experience. I fully support this product. Buy it. You will not regret it.
