I can definitely see that these pillows are not for everyone. I'm very glad I took the risk. I chose this company because it is chemical free, made in the USA and customer reviews don't mention a chemical smell or BUGS like other less expensive brands. I also took the advice of another reviewer and went for the larger size (Medium is 26 inches) and am very happy with it. I used the first two nights as is before deciding to take some suitcases off. too much of. After a night or two I added some more and now I'm feeling good. It takes a bit of getting used to, learning to adjust a bit at night. The sound doesn't bother me at all. I have two extra bio pillowcases in addition to the one provided to prevent moisture (okay, I drool) from getting onto the body (using waterproof material filled with chemicals would only make the idea of using chemicals... ruin). free buckwheat to start with) and a regular pillowcase on top. I don't think they dampen it much, but I get better if dust gets through or moisture (drool) gets on the covers. The sound is not annoying. me, but I also sleep with a blanket over my ear to drown out any noise (in addition to the sound machine) so I'm used to the feel/sound of fabric rubbing my ear. Sounds like I have a TMJ and I finally wanted to spend all my money to buy an overnight mouthguard from my dentist. I received my pillow about 3 weeks before my dentist appointment and when I went to the appointment I found that I didn't have the TMJ problems that I had every morning before the pillow. I woke up with such a sore jaw from grinding my teeth and really had to do a lot of neck stretches every morning and take anti-inflammatories from time to time on really bad mornings. I see a chiropractor helping for a while but the pillow really seems to be helping! No more waking up with a sore throat and jaw. There are still times when I can't get it right at night and I can wake up with a bit of pain, but it's nowhere near what it used to be. I have a 17 month old who is starting to get interested in using a pillow. and since staying chemical free is so important to me I have already made a tiny 12x16 organic cotton pillowcase for her and plan to buy a 2lb pack of this company's covers to give her a starter pillow (as they should be fairly flat for little ones). in any case). I'll definitely put and add some zippers and buttons to make sure they aren't a choking hazard, but I think this would make a great first pillow. I will say that traveling will probably be painful. I can't imagine ever lugging this nearly 5 pound pillow on a plane, so I don't think it would be good for travel unless you're driving. Again, probably not for everyone, but for me I'm very glad I took the chance and tried it!
