Review on πŸŽ₯ YOLOLIV YoloBox Pro: Portable Multi-Camera Streaming Studio by Brandon Addison

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Both streamer and switcher great

This is my first experience with Yolobox. I have experience with ATEM Mini and Livepro switches. I do some live broadcasts, but not a lot. Some basics. Yolobox pro comes in a nice no-frills packaging. It includes a screen protector and a cold shoe mount that fits into a 1/4 20 slot on the bottom of the device. Decent quality cold shoe mount. Also included is an allen wrench for tightening the cold shoe mount. And a button for the SIM card. You will receive 2 cables. USB-C to USB-A cable and USB-C to USB-C cable. The device itself feels solid. Its dimensions are approximately 8.5 inches by 5 inches by 1.25 inches. The sides have a rubber texture. I think it weighs about 1.5 kg. and feels solid. Of course, it has a built-in rechargeable battery. There are no ports or buttons on the sides. The top has 3 HDMI inputs, USB-C and USB-A ports for webcams and other USB devices, an Ethernet port, headphone jack, line-in and microphone-in. Both are 3.5mm ports, as well as a USB-C power port. The bottom edge of the device features a 1/4 screw hole, an SD card slot, a SIM card slot, and a power button. The bottom of the device has a rubber texture. Setup is very easy. I fully charged the device first via the USB-C port. It will not charge from a PD device. USB 2.5a charger only. Once activated, connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet and register a Yolo account. It then automatically runs through several software update cycles. Then enter your account for your streaming services. I have no problem connecting Canon camcorders and the Logitech Streamlive webcam. As a dedicated device for live streaming, it excels. A computer is not required. I had no problems with either my Ethernet network or streaming a test channel on YouTube. There are many online reviews detailing the streaming and being relatively new I don't have much to add. Well, maybe the fan is running louder than expected. It can definitely be heard on your broadcast if your mic is pointed at the Yolobox. Since I come from ATEM, I miss many functions. There's a slight delay when switching sources, say around 0.5 seconds for transitions etc. There's little control over the timing of transitions. There's also very little control over the audio. Overlay on Yolo is very basic but also limited. For example, the bottom third can only be on one side of the screen. In short, if you like ATEM's flexibility, you'll miss these features in Yolobo. There are other features that are missing but may be included in future software updates. The most attractive feature for me would be the ability to play recordings. Yolobox lets you record without live streaming, so you can record and stream later. However, you cannot view the recorded video. You need to remove the SD card and play on a computer. I also wish it had a USB webcam so it could be used as a webcam device like ATEM. All in all, if you need a great live streaming device, simple and portable. No need for computers, this is a 5 star unit. If you're dreaming of a portable mixer/recorder like me, I think it's missing a lot of the features that make it really useful as an ATEM Mini replacement. And finally it gets loud and hot. Point your microphones away. I also hope someone comes up with a cage for this device. This makes the screen easier to see when it's tilted slightly and lifts it off a flat surface for better airflow. No need for computers, this is a 5 star unit.
