Nice but small

I'd like to say right away that I have a King California mattress and duvet cover (the description says it's a King/California King) and I'm basing my review on that point. This duvet cover is small compared to my previous one which adequately covered my bed side to side and head to toe. I wanted something textured (tufted, pleated, quilted etc) and wasn't expecting it to be soft and smooth, so I really like the fabric and the feel. My only issue with this set is the size - otherwise everything is fine. The set contains a very light duvet cover that is quite thin so it works best with a white insert (there is NO insert); two king-size pillowcases that match the quilted texture of the duvet cover; two large square quilted slipcovers; a small square pleated pillow; and a small rectangular cushion with colored tufts. I bought an off-white comforter and my throw pillows were grey, which didn't go well with my brown color scheme, but I appreciate the effort. I will say the design on the pillowcases is that the pillows stick out at the back because there is no button or clasp so it's not ideal. There are no problems with pillowcases (see photo). My only complaint is the size. I had to rotate the duvet cover 90 degrees from normal to fill the width of the duvet to cover *some* of the edges of my bed and now I have lumps on the foot board. A blanket. I would say that on the sides the blanket only falls on the top of my springs and only the top of my foot on the top of the headboard of the mattress (see photo). I don't have a bed skirt, so it's far from perfect. Outside of the packaging, the set was wrinkled and had to be washed to get it out (you can easily wash on a gentle cycle and tumble dry on medium). There are drawstrings in each corner of the duvet cover. So if you have loops on the pad, you can attach them to avoid shifting and bunching. Tip on the case's zipper over the liner: It's closed, but the buttons are kind of turned inside out - they're not; This method keeps everything smooth on that edge, so I suggest repinning it in the same way. I spent about $90 for a set and I think it's good value for money once you know the measurements (the measurements are listed somewhere in the product description) and that the texture won't be soft and smooth.
