Slim Compact, HDMI out does not work with Linux

I understand that this device does not claim to be compatible with Linux, but I have several other similar devices and they all support Linux without any problems . This tells me that this is either sub-standard or uses a fundamentally different standard than other devices. The USB 3.0 ports work perfectly and run at full speed.
