UPDATE: The same thing happened when I replaced it, except that 2 batteries were empty and 2 were fully charged. I replaced two dead batteries and ONLY after a week (less than 10 minutes of use) the mirror returned to minimum brightness. WITH TWO EQUAL FAULTS I WILL NOW SEARCH FOR A GREAT PRODUCT. By the way, at the time of the initial purchase, this malfunction was not noted in any reviews. * The following was written a few months ago. After 3 months of very light use (once every 2.5 days less than 2 minutes each, today when I turned it on the light wasn't as bright as it should have been as if it could only access a lower level of light make this unit. After changing the battery it worked like new BUT. When I checked the 4 AA batteries (Ever Ready, very new) three were almost fully charged but *one was completely dead.* Because it only lasted 3 Months of very rare use, it looks like the device is only powered by a battery Of course, the return period has already expired. .
