Review on Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch 1680x1050 Resolution 60Hz Wide Screen Monitor with 3D and USB Hub by Eric Dip

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent monitor, the best in my rating

I just bought this monitor from the Dell website (received it on 10 Mar 08). So if you're in the market, you're here. I did a lot of research, fact checking and evaluating my needs (I'm not a "gamer" and this is definitely not the right screen for hardcore gaming) before settling on the Dell. My monitor arrived safe and sound, installation was easy, and there are no on-screen aberrations that I can see or find (dead pixels, backlight leaks, etc.). WFP 2007 uses the S-IPS LCD style. The 2007WFP used an S-IPS or S-PVA screen, but the current batch is all S-IPS. The LCD screens are said to be made by LG or Samsung and the screen is the same as the much-touted Apple Cinema series. If you do an online search for these types of display technologies, S-IPS and S-PVA, you will find that they perform much better than the more common and less expensive TN-LCD. And it's getting harder and harder to find an LCD with S-IPS or S-PVA technology, especially in Dell's price range. The 2007FPW monitor replaces my aging 17" CRT Samsung Sync-Master. The picture is beautiful and for basic PC operations (not photography or cinema) this monitor is much better than my CRT. The additional "real estate" " on the 20" screen are great. I'm an amateur photographer and one of the reasons I bought this monitor was to be able to use it for photo editing in Photoshop. This monitor was often referred to as an LCD in online recommendations Best value monitor for digital photography mentioned. Is that the best? No, but then the best ones cost more or two thousand. To get the best picture from each of these LCDs, pair them with the highest quality available Signal that takes place via the DVI cable (supplied) on the 2007 model If your graphics card does not have a DVI output, upgrade your card, do not use a VGA connection or you will underestimate yourself and are probably not happy with what you see. Also, make sure your graphics card has the latest factory drivers. Another factor in maximizing the image, especially in photo work, is to use a color calibration tool (Spyder, etc.). The appearance of the monitor is as beautiful as the picture; It's well built and has an incredibly durable and versatile stand. The anti-glare screen has a matte finish, unlike some glossy LCD screens (such as the HP line); This reduces the reflected light from table lamps, etc. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. Time will tell how satisfied I will be, but for now this Dell 2007FPW monitor is a winner. UPDATE: wow! I was recently asked a question about this Dell monitor. I know I had it quite a while ago, but I never knew how long: it's been TEN years. This monitor still works great. I've never had problems with dead pixels or anything like that. It still works just as well as when it was new. When I originally bought it I was using Windows (probably XP) and today it works great with my Mac Mini running OS Mojave. I still use it for photography (amateur) and still colorize it with a Spyder colorimeter. I have no idea how the latest "refurbished" or "refurbished" units of this Dell monitor work; My tip: If you are interested, look for one that is in great original condition. The screen is what sets this Dell unit apart from other LCDs (or separated when I bought it). If the screen has been replaced, at least make sure it's replaced with an S-IPS style LCD. That's what it originally came with and what made it a good choice for photographic work. The only thing I would wish for is a slightly larger screen. But I'll settle for a decade of reliability and performance any day.

Pros
  • Looks good, delivered quickly and --- works!
Cons
  • The monitor is noisy when it is on.
