Review on Sony SSCS5 3-Way 3-Driver Bookshelf Speaker System (Pair) - Dynamic Sound and Sleek Black Design by Louis Nakashima

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Where have you been all my life?

I bought them at Revain last week for $118 (including shipping). How good can a pair of speakers be in this price range? Well, let me tell you. The word amazing comes to mind. I've been an "audiophile" for 40 years. My methodology when buying speakers has always been to listen to the best speakers available that I couldn't afford, and then move on to speakers that are within my budget but sound as close to my "dream" speakers as possible. . Simply put, these speakers are reliable, well made and sound incredibly warm and accurate. They can easily compete with speakers in the sub $500 price range, well, compete isn't the right word... kicking the doors out of the way of speakers in this price range is more like it. In fact, I dare say that in a blind study (when you had no idea what speakers you were listening to in a head-to-head comparison) you prefer these over speakers in the $1,000 range. So! I said it! That had to be said! I don't know what Sony did with these little bastards, but they're great. Now, a week later, the price has jumped to $148, and not just at Revain...everywhere. I don't know what made them jump $30 a night but are they worth it? When I hear them, I pay double. Oh, and by the way, I'm using them as the main speakers in a two-channel scenario, not as surround speakers. Extremely impressed and they haven't even been "broken in" yet. If you're looking for great bookshelf speakers, look no further. Don't let the low price fool you... you found it. Hello folks!
