Bought a little more expensive at local store but with extra warranty. I wasn't impressed at first and they get better over time, but I still need to play around with the EQ a bit. When I heard JBL in store for the second time, my wife and I heard a slight rattle compared to the more expensive parts we just heard. So I found something in my price range at another audio store and went with it. I've been using these power basses in my Ford Fiesta for two months now, so they've had plenty of time to "break in". Results hit and miss. I've never replaced speakers in a car before so I didn't know what to expect. The most important thing that struck me is that it's all about your sound source! And these speakers make a difference in sound, maybe for the better? My standard speakers played most songs with about the same quality and tone. This power bass definitely likes some bands/songs more than others. Generally a sign of a high-end product in the audio world, you can really tell which of your song files have the best quality. The Muse 2nd Law FLAC album sounds amazing on these speakers! The radio with this power bass sounds really good, especially compared to the almost dead rear speakers. I need to turn on the equalizer, but you can do this with all speakers. See the photo as a starting point, then adjust to taste. * Warning for iPod/USB audio users! * DO NOT leave the iPod equalizer set to Flat/Off. The lead guitars will be so hard your ears will bleed. Less compressed songs like When the Levee Breaks and Any CCR were almost impossible to listen to. I've always set my Nanos to "Hip-Hop" or "Rock" EQ. "Hip-Hop" is needed primarily to keep the mids under control. I've been fiddling with in-car sound settings for so long trying to get usable mids out of these speakers; until I switch my iPod back to its own equalizer. In combination with this system, this results in an excellent sound. I had to fiddle with the sound so much that I started blaming it on the installer setting the crossover wrong! But once I set up the iPod EQ, everything worked. The tweeters aren't very bright, of course, so raising the high a few notches fills everything out. They handle the bass very well, but too much boost on a low dial will confuse things pretty quickly. I've found that subtle bass boost gives the best all-around results :) For best all-around sound [after iPod EQ]: +3-4 bass +2-3 mid +4-5 treble Not a bad upgrade for the price, for sure . But look elsewhere - Revain's prices have been high in recent years. Walmart offers Powerbass and they are $100 less than what I paid. I'm just saying.
