I really like this belt - it's exactly what I was looking for! To decide what size to order, I measured and measured my waist in jeans with a soft tape measure. through the loops where the belt will be. I measured 36 inches but went against the measurement guide and ordered a medium size instead of the large recommended. As other reviewers have pointed out, your measurements will vary depending on whether you wear the pants higher in the waist or lower in the hips, so keep that in mind. The middle strap itself is about 1.25 inches wide and about 43 inches long. including buckle. There are five holes spaced about 1 inch apart. I wear it with my jeans which range from size 9 to size 11 depending on the brand. The middle strap fits me through the third hole for a looser and more comfortable fit, or through the fourth hole (from the end) for a tighter fit. This still leaves me the freedom to loosen or tighten in the event of weight gain or loss. The third and fourth holes are about 36 inches from the buckle, which fits perfectly with the waist measurement I took before purchasing this belt! The color may be slightly lighter than shown in the picture. The texture is a rough matte skin that you can't see in the picture. It's comfortable, easy to close and open, and keeps my pants in place. The belt feels very strong and durable despite being made in China. I also like the mini belt loop; it adds a cute touch to the belt! It's detachable so you can adjust it however you like, but I like it when it's there. Overall a great belt. I am very happy with this purchase!
