When I ordered these bags from Revain I didn't read some of the reviews about leaking sand. Since all sandbags will eventually develop small holes or tears in the seam, I was advised to use fine gravel. Which I did and took half a cubic yard at home center. But to make things easier I put the gravel in gallon ziplocks before putting them in the sandbags. That way I can just take the Pebbles out and leave them at home if I need to take my gear on a plane instead of paying extra. Then grab some zip ties and pebbles on the spot. Place 5 pounds of pebbles in each castle on either side of the sandbags so the sandbag weighs 10 1/2 pounds total. I personally find it a good weight and easy to transport. The sandbags are a good solid construction and the double zips secure the pebbles well. Was disappointed with the use of sandbags this weekend. Set background frame and light. I wanted to attach the carabiner to the stand, but it was too small to fit around the base tube. They used medium carbines when they had to use very large carbines. I had to remove the background. Remove the umbrella and lanterns to attach the sandbag loop to the standpipe. Then attach the lanterns and umbrellas back to the stand. And reattach the bar to the rear posts with the back side. I removed and remade the carabiners. Since black is not a typical color, you can buy it with carabiners. Do not buy new if you can easily place the tape on the pipe during installation. This is because sandbags are heavy and can damage your gear if carried together. The sandbags together weigh over 40 pounds, causing the seam in the carry bag to rip. I bought a black bucket and screw cap at Home Center for about $12. Four sandbags fit perfectly in a five gallon bucket. And the screw cap provides easy access. This is the best solution I've found for carrying sandbags. Figured out how to get double the load out of the bucket used to carry the sandbags. Make a seat that fits the bottom of the bucket and use the bucket as a stool for the subject to sit on while taking the photo. ***Update 2018*** Since my son is so tall, the current background stand leaves a small splinter above his head creating an awkward cropping. Purchased Limo Studio AGG1112 8.5ft Tall Backdrop Stand. While shopping I came across 4.5 inch single seal carabiners for a dollar each. If only they were black! Dark blue would probably work. They barely fit around a 25mm base tube on a stand. Most racks of this height have a 1.4" or 35mm base tube. So you need a 5-6 inch carabiner. Of course you can still use the strap over the stand before attaching the lights or crossbar. 3-4 for lighting. So I was missing 1-2 sandbags, but I shot indoors, so no problem when the wind blows over the stands. At a sporting goods store I found a black baseball bucket that is a bit larger for about $12. Pretty sure the same lid will fit this baseball bucket. I'll end up with two bucket sizes, but that gives me two uses in the photograph of the object it's going to sit on.
