Review on πŸŽ™οΈ AKG C214 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone for Pro Audio Recording, Grey by Casey Nzuki

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great mic to add to your collection

So let me say upfront that the ONLY reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I've been using a (unmodified ) MXL990 came along thinking it would work would be a MASSIVE update. It's not like this. Other than that I really like this mic and if I get another one I don't see myself selling the 214. Just wanted to let everyone know that there are many other improvements that can be made to your signal. chains, so you know the mic is just a small part of it. The highs can be a bit hissy with this mic, but I knew that beforehand and wanted it. I'd say my singing style is similar to Chris Martin's, so my goal was to have a slightly "bright" mic. Mine is paired with a Steinberg UR44 and it's a very quiet setup. I think I need to change my settings a bit because if I don't have a 0dB pad I don't get the best results when I'm 12-16 inches from the mic. Again, I think this is what I need. for tuning in my setup, not something directly related to 214. Unfortunately I haven't been able to try this on anything other than higher register male vocals, but I've heard it's a good mic for hip hop and will update this review (can I do that?) if I get the chance to record some of the rappers I know. Some of my friends who work in studios told me I was stupid for thinking it could handle the c414, but I didn't know if it would justify the extra $300-$400 for a 414. I think if I could do that all over again, I probably would dial 414, but hey, I guess that's life. Han, when I just get 414 for the first time. I don't necessarily need radiation patterns, but the 414 is the industry standard and the 214 is still considered a "budget" model. If you're on a budget I'd definitely recommend this mic, but if you can afford something more that's up to the industry standard I'd definitely go for the latter. Again, I still love this mic and have no plans to part with it even if I decide to upgrade.
