I was unable to figure out how to make the background of the portrait blurry. This camera does a better job at background blurring than my previous Oplympus C-740. Pros: It's imposing and glamorous at the same time, like a beast and something serious. The swivel screen, fantastic zoom, and steadying mechanism all met my expectations. Really fast! (SD card x133). Normal AA batteries (of which there are four) are widely available and easy to use. The negatives: Heavy and cumbersome. In most cases, you should immediately disable the image stabilizer lest it distort the image. Very out-of-whack white-balance controls. The USB compartment cover does not stay put and wiggles open. It's simple to misplace the lens cap. A hole and some twine will be needed.
