I bought one to hold a 45 lb dog thinking it would hold my two 11 lb dogs. The bed is not big enough or has enough padding for a 22 lb dog let alone a 45 lb dog. The filling is in the spheres, so you have the unfilled and filled parts of the base. Rather than returning the bed I bought a second one so now any bed made for a 45 lb dog will only fit an 11 lb dog. . I also opened up some of the seams and added some padding to the base to make it look larger. Why go to all this trouble you ask? I like the way the beds look and they were the only navy blue I could find to match my office. These beds were very cheap and you get what you pay for, but if you pad the base and have dogs it's a lot easier. as the weight the beds seem to be rated for I got them to work. My dogs love them and climb right in when I sit down to work.
