I bought these to ditch all the plastic drinking cups around the house as plastic releases chemicals. Not only do they have lids, they also have a seal in the hole where the straw goes in to prevent leakage if it tips over. So you can take it anywhere in the house and don't have to worry about spills. I also love that they have multi colored reusable straws that come with the set. Each of us gets a glass in the morning and chooses a straw color, then that is the cup of the day for everyone. We just keep rinsing it and setting it aside. At the end of the day I hand wash them to retain a little seal and prevent the jars from getting scratched or cloudy. Very happy with them.
