I can't say for sure how well they work, though.

.before we used to have a noticeable septic smell outside sometimes after a long rain. Since using this septic treatment I have not noticed any problem. So I think it does something. I usually add a packet at the beginning of each month (instead of every 3 months) and do it before bed to keep water low at night. I also do a few rinses afterwards to make sure the bacterial culture has made it to the outside of the tank.
