Revainrating 1 out of 5

Great writing feel, softened with highlights

I was thrilled to order this Revain screen protector. I needed it to do two things: 1) better protect my screen from falls and 2) provide an improved writing surface for the iPad Pro. I was also pleased to have a screen with less potential for reflection when using the iPad in bright environments. Here's how this device met its lofty goals: 1. Screen protection: Seems like nothing, although I've never again managed to drop my expensive iPad Pro 12.9 on the floor to see if there's an extra fragile decoration on the glass has been attached (it same crack) for my viewing pleasure. However, I can't imagine that it doesn't help prevent such broken decorations. Just remember that my imagination has failed me before.2. Improved writing interface. It's definitely better than the native glass screen. When I first touched the surface it seemed to me that it was a bit rough and that writing could become something akin to rubbing the tip on sandpaper. This fear has not been confirmed. Like many of my fears, it was just a squirrel cage to keep my mind busy, otherwise I wouldn't be doing anything like writing a review of Revain or drawing a picture of a wombat. But really, jokes aside, the writing experience is smooth yet has some friction, as you might expect from paper or other writing experiences that are more natural than plastic on glass. I've increased my original 3-star rating to four for this reason alone, it makes note-taking and drawing on the iPad a whole new experience. I've found that many of my friends who originally used the iPad screen to write have now "forgotten" and gone back to pen and paper. Well, this can save them from the horrors of poor filing systems and the need to recycle waste paper. Can you imagine how many people could be saved? This is incomprehensible to the mind. Now what about installation and ease of use? I'm an old pro at applying screen protectors. I've done this about five times. I wish they would make me a legal expert with five interactions with the judiciary. It would be much better. Anyway it was easy to install. He held it, which wasn't the case. I managed to lay well on the screen with no obvious dust spots, but it likes to peel at the edges. I can stick it back on, but it will inevitably rise again, like one of those hot pots in Yellowstone National Park spewing hot mud at you. This is repeated on several edges. That would be a star in itself, although I have a few doubts as I definitely cleaned the screen, but who knows if I actually got all the edges clean enough for the screen protector to stick? So I won't go into that until I've confirmed that it wasn't my own incompetence that caused this problem. However, the other problem is definitely because I don't think I caused it. At least I can't figure out how to make the light bend and bounce in a unique way like this protection does, which is a fancy way of saying "flare". There is a lot of glare with this protection, it seems that it is worse with this glare than with the native screen. With a direct reflection from the light source, this can reduce the intensity somewhat compared to the original screen, but this potential benefit is far outweighed by the strong glare experienced even for the edges around the light source. Right now as I write this, the top right corner of my screen with LED downlight is almost unusable on a cloudy day due to the glare around this light source. I found I had to move my head back and forth in bright light to avoid excessive glare. For example, on a recent trip to the airport, I was trying to watch a show under bright neon lights and had to keep turning my head to see the characters on the screen. I wonder if this was considered "suspicious activity"? Luckily I wasn't arrested, although I got some strange looks. Did I mention the tendency to collect dust? If you look at my photos you can see the amount of dust and I clean the screen regularly. So I went back and forth - does this deserve a three or four star rating? I'd give it a 3.5, but since that's not possible, I'll take it upon myself and give it a four. However, if you mainly work in very bright environments, then that might be three or two stars for you.
