I wanted a hobbyist HT with decent range, battery life, and multi-band repeat, which was a nice addition. Still a Chinese radio with crappy instructions. Don't get me wrong, this is an improvement over the UV5R, but this particular model is not currently included in Chirp. Also my Beofeng programming cable does not work with this HT. So I have to order another cable and use Wouxun software to program it. I'll update when I do. Also, I have no idea how to set it to cross-repeat and as far as I can tell from the manual there are different cross-repeat modes. After all, I don't like orange. Why they chose that bright color is beyond me. I plan to take it apart and paint it a nice coyote brown or maybe ranger green. I also had to make some spacers to make it work with the Anree antenna. Finally, I'm glad he paid attention to which connector he uses for the antenna, because it's the opposite of uv5r, just like Yeasu HT. Update: 07/01/2021 So I've been using this radio on my belt pouch for almost a week now and have replaced my standard antenna with an ABREE to test the network. Low and that's the inner element broke. This is very disappointing for the price of this radio. I understand the uv5r has a reversed version of this IE SMA jack antenna but I have never had a uv5r antenna break as well as an element in the radio. This is disappointing to say the least. I guess I have to order Nagoya for it now.
