Review on 🐶 NUTRO Adult Grain-Free Dry Dog Food - Limited Ingredient Diet by Veronica Jackson

Please read about grain free foods and heart failure

My dog has been eating grain free Nutro food his whole life - since he was a puppy - because I thought he had a grain allergy (like himself turned out to be chicken allergy). After being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and a heart murmur at the age of eight, my veterinarian and veterinary cardiologist discovered that his grain-free diet was the cause. He was incredibly lucky because with a change in diet and heart medication, he made a full recovery. The process also cost about a few thousand dollars between specialists and medication, which was worth it, but it was very annoying to think that it could have been avoided if he hadn't been given that food. He had previously reached a point where his heart had changed so dramatically that vets weren't sure what his prognosis was. I was so pissed off thinking that this food might harm my dog, not to mention it's more than double what I'm giving her now. I emailed Nutro asking them to put a warning on their label but their response was really disappointing and they took no responsibility for the cause of the problem although my vet knows it is. Please do some research on grain-free diets (there's a great NYT Summer 2018 article on this) before considering putting your dog on them. Golden retrievers are particularly prone to this problem, and two of the vets I went to died of heart failure when they were only two and four years old.
