There was a guide I could follow, but I decided to watch a few videos to make sure I didn't make any mistakes. I don't put anything on my face in the morning except aloe vera gel to help. I've used this machine twice and haven't noticed much hair growth and it's been about 2 weeks since I've used it. I've noticed that some of the darker hairs are coming back, but they don't look as dark and thick as they did before using this product. Thought I might have to use this a few more times but from the looks of it it definitely helps with hair removal.
