My apartment in San Jose, California is older and doesn't have shower fabric softener. I've been trying to find ways to at least reduce the water hardness in my bathroom. FYI, the water in Santa Clara County, California is incredibly hard. On average, that's 320 PPM! My friend suggested buying a filter for my bathroom. I bought this shower head but I needed more filter capacity so I bought a shower head with a separate built in filter. After using the filter and showerhead together for a week, I became curious and decided to see if they really reduced the water hardness in my shower. I bought Varify water hardness test strips. I tested Crystal Geyser bottled water, unfiltered bath water, and water filtered with a shower head and this filter head. Here are the results: OVERALL HARDNESS Crystal Geyser: 25 ppm Unfiltered bath water: 320 ppm Filtered shower water: 250 ppm Chlorine smell too. It doesn't soften it to the level of bottled water, but as we can see from the results, the total amount of ppm removed was around 70. That being said, if you want to reduce water hardness and chlorine smell, give this filter a try! It was very easy to install and came with extra features to make things easier. I am absolutely new to DIY as this is my first apartment but I had no problem adding it!
