I have a well planted aquarium using a grow light which color is annoying to my eyes. While colors do appear, particularly red and green, this is not a daylight-like bulb. I didn't want to replace the lamp as it has a color range favorable for plants, so I bought this light to penetrate the housing and compensate for the grow lamp's uncomfortable spectrum. The spectrum of this light is in the 7-10K range --- very white but without a blue cast (to the eyes). That works great. However, I don't use it underwater. It sits in the vented body of my fluorescent lamp over a tempered glass cover. The ability to turn on only the blue light is a nice bonus. It would be nice just white, just blue or all inclusive, but for the price and as an accessory or for an aquarium that doesn't need any living plant species, it's enough as it is =)
