Review on Sutefoto Teleprompter with Remote Control for iPad, Camera, and iPhone Recording - Supports Phone and iPad as Teleprompter Device by John Holliday

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good teleprompter for vloggers and reviewers

What is a teleprompter (or more generally "prompter")? It's a device with a mirror that you attach to the camera so you can face the camera while reading the script. The camera sees you looking straight into the lens, but if you stand where the performer is standing you can see the script appearing on the mirror in front of the lens. Read the news every night. They don't remember these scripts - they read the script from the prompter. Now that you know what a prompter is, what do you need to know about the Sutefoto prompter? First, it's made of lightweight plastic and weighs about 1 pound - 452 grams. It's light enough that you can walk carefully and read the script while your cameraman stands back. Because it's made of plastic, it won't take a lot of abuse. Again, it has a mirror, so it really needs to be treated with care. Incidentally, that 1 pound weight doesn't require the necessary display device, which I'll get to later. And while I just said you can walk with the prompter, you really should just keep it on a tripod most of the time. The Sutefoto prompter smartly attaches to the camera lens, which is durable and completely blocks light penetration. behind the mirror. Both are good. Several adapter rings for the camera are included with the device. My lens came with a 62mm ring so it fit me perfectly. However, if there is no ring that fits your lens, you will have trouble attaching the prompter to your camera. You need to know what thread diameter your lens has before ordering this model - in my case it came with a 62mm adapter ring which fits my lens perfectly. One of my photos shows a prompter attached to the end of a camera lens. Like any prompter, the Sutefoto prompter needs some sort of display to play the script and bounce off the mirror. With this prompter you can use a mobile phone or tablet up to a large 10 inch model. I use my cell phone with a 6 inch display. As prompter software, Sutefoto offers an app download called BestView. You need to use a dedicated prompter app for that, because keep that in mind. You reflect your text in the mirror. In addition to mirroring text so that it reflects properly on the mirror, BestView makes it easy to resize text. This is an important step to be able to read the script comfortably at the optimal distance from the camera. One of my images shows the two main screens in BestView. The app also lets you control the speed at which text scrolls so you can read it at a natural speed. Sutefoto Prompter comes with a hand control that I used to start and stop scrolling. With the right phone, it should also give you the ability to control the speed and direction of scrolling. I can only get the start/stop function to work with my phone though - actually it's pretty handy and works well so I don't miss out on other options. One of my photos shows a hand control. I had a learning curve with BestView but now it works great after figuring it out. I couldn't find any instructions for it, so I had to learn it by trial and error. The Sutefoto teleprompter is the perfect size and price for vloggers and product critics like me. It's big enough that I can read it from a distance. And at around $100, its value is in the range that will up your video production game without draining your wallet. Some of the hardware installed on the camera works great, and the ability to use both mobile phones and small tablets is excellent. I can be a comfortable distance from the camera and easily see my script just by using my phone as a prompter display. The hand controller is good. cozy. But I cannot use the full functionality with my Android Motorola phone. Maybe this will give you the full functionality of your phone, but at least I can remotely start and stop the script scrolling. Therefore I give Sutefoto Teleprompter 4 out of 5 stars. The mirror assembly that attaches to the camera is excellent, the BestView app is very good, but the hand control doesn't do everything it's supposed to, which lowers the score a bit. On the other hand, the cost is very reasonable, which is why I give it a solid four stars. You can watch my video review of the Sutefoto teleprompter on YouTube - just go to YouTube and search "sutefoto teleprompter".

Pros
  • Compatible with a phone or tablet (e.g. iPad) as a teleprompter. Use one side for your phone and the other side for your tablet (you will need to adjust the mount if you switch between phone and tablet), also check the clamp size to make sure your tablet is a compatible size!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
