I use shin and knee guards when I ride the VFR800 to work every day. They've held up just as well as other well-known brands that I've paid a lot more for at local stores. I also find them useful when working on a bike or car in a garage. The knee joint works great and they stay in place. I feel they offer adequate protection in the event of a fall and/or slip, especially compared to regular lined pants. I've always ridden in various types of lightly armored jackets, but when the weather warms up I plan to use elbow and hand protection with a lightweight, tear-resistant mesh nylon jacket.
