I bought a size 12/14 for an average height (5ft 1in) and weight (80lbs) almost 13 year old and they fit just perfect . The belt is useful for extra help in caring for the pants. They're a bit long for him, so hopefully he'll benefit from them. He used them for a hike. It's been out for about 4 hours straight and hasn't frozen. He said that they protect against the cold. He could move easily in it, sit down, stand up, ride. He's worn them four or five times now and they're still holding up well.
