Terrible AM reception! (UPDATE!)

Received this radio and tested it on a local AM station. I hardly heard it, although it sounds loud and clear with my Grundig G6 and RadioShack wireless headphones. I immediately put it back in the box to return. Very disappointed! (EDIT) After using the radio I found that the reception is normal when using AM headphones. Why that could be, no one can explain. But there is another problem. When I tune in to the exact frequency of a strong AM station, the volume increases in a very annoying way, making it impossible to hear. Others with working radios say this also happens when listening through the speaker. This is caused by either soft DSP muting or horrible AGC (automatic gain control). I've found a way to solve the horrible sound pumping problem that severely affects AM and sometimes shortwave. For example, if you're listening to Dallas' WBAP 820 AM, lower the 1kHz tune from 820 to 819. Not only will this stop the pumping, but it will disable the gentle muting on weaker stations, so you're actually using the AM radio properly be able. But lowering 1kHz results in a noticeable drop in volume, so I use headphones when doing this. Thank god I discovered that. Now I can use the AM band in my radio! Shortwave works great with this radio and it has great search features which I won't describe here that quickly store active frequencies for you to tune into. See instructions. Keep them handy as you will need them if anything goes wrong until you learn how to use the radio. VHF works great and both VHF and HF have excellent reception. The speaker sounds very tinny when listening to FM music, but the volume can be adjusted. quite loud. Tecsun needs to improve the audio circuitry in this radio or at least add some control to allow the user to add some bass or tone to the sound. When using shortwave and AM, there are filters that you can use to reduce the high frequencies. These filters can be set to 6, 4, 3, 2.5 and 1. The best setting is 2.5 or 3. I bought an AC adapter to charge three rechargeable batteries in the radio. The adapter cannot be used to power a radio as it creates horrible static on the AM and HF bands and if I use it while listening to FM I hear distortion. accumulators. This way you don't have to worry about dead batteries and save a lot of money! I have many radios and use them in all mine. Get a great pack of regular batteries for extended power outages or camping trips.
