These trays require a rubberized or non-slip base when used for plates/bowls of food. They will slip and spill if used on your lap or anywhere other than a flat, hard surface. However, they are ideal for placing anything under the Aquagrow that will allow moisture to escape. Will keep them as I just put a non slip pad under one for eating on the couch. The rest is used for the methods listed above. Not the same as the restaurant version. I think the best couch food tray would be one with a protective backing with a non-slip bottom used to prevent glasses etc from tipping over. Around midnight Just my opinion.
