I'm from Florida and this was my second trip to Colorado to see snow. Of course, being in such a warm climate and seeing temperatures that say 19 but feel like 8 was my general concern about staying warm. Even the cold here makes me miserable. I had thermals underneath and was practically sweaty to get anywhere. It warmed me up a lot. For the record, I also had thermal underwear, a thermal top, a hoodie and a snow jacket. I'm 5 inches tall, 130 pounds. I have a medium and it fits well but the legs were a bit long for me. I wish there was a "short" fit. It was really elastic. I wore all those layers and never felt like it was tight. It's really isolated. I sat in the snow for almost an hour after wrecking my skis and never felt the snow seep into my insulated dungarees.
