This is the cat I have had since she was only a few weeks old. Then she ate something. But unfortunately that meant literally everything and she has PICA which causes her to try to eat a lot of inedible foods that could kill her. At the age of 2 she had to have emergency surgery after eating a handful of hair ties like spaghetti and would have died without the costly reconstruction of her digestive tract. Since then, she's been paying a lot more attention to what she eats. I've only attempted to eat foods that meet some basic quality requirements and aren't primarily bulking, which combined with the occasional need for diuretic prescription foods for bladder stones, really drives up their nutritional costs. I had a hard time getting her to eat Hill's Prescription Diet, which she hated so much that she started urinating in my bed very often. She was fine peeing blood and having stones, but giving up her cheap cheat food like a can of Friskies was a limit for her. She cut out all the pie products, and then her longtime favorite Friskies Gravy went unavailable, forcing me to look for substitutes for the food she truly enjoys. After a few glitches I found these tiny portions. For once she would have eaten the whole portion and wanted more. The ingredient list shows that this is at least a basic, medium to high quality pie, with the first few ingredients being real, great sources of protein like tuna and fish stock. As long as the ingredient list is true (cat food is a sketchy business with a lot of lies) then I see it becoming their new staple with more flavors to mix and match. Overall she is much happier since switching to this food (and the combination of endless kibble has been left out as she is a solitary cat who doesn't overeat) and the combination of the two is proving not too expensive as she is good with 2-3 of these pouches per day and dry food if she is rarely hungry enough. The packaging design is great too, it easily rips from the top and the whole pie sheet slides out completely without leaving any smelly marks in the trash. According to the feeding instructions, the shelf life of each box is only 3 days. average food cost per day. So the $11 price is deceptive as if fed as directed, it's over $110 a month compared to the $35 cheap crappy Friskies brands that are not the mainstay of a cat's diet should be if you take care of your health. Mixing it with dry food, if your cat really likes it, will help keep costs down while still meeting nutritional needs. Other similar premium brands also easily break the $100-a-month mark, making these many tiny packages not particularly expensive and a worthwhile proposition for the market.
