For nearly two decades, I've relied on these. I acquired the original pair from the vintage Gorbushka; they were American-made and I wore them snugly. When finding replacement ear pads proved hard, I improvised by purchasing the cheapest Chinese headphones with appropriate foam rubber from a stall—specifically, foam rubber for Koss, China in a bucket. They ultimately passed away around 5 years ago when one of the speakers developed a wheeze. I couldn't find anything comparable to replace them with, so I just bought new ones. I've known this since elementary school: to keep a plug's wire from snapping in half, simply wound the spring of a regular fountain pen around its rod until it reaches the point where the plug inserts into the wire. This is the weakest area in any ear, thus I do it to everyone I know whenever we use headphones.
