I live in a poorly insulated caravan. For the past 3 winters I've kept the temp at 50-55F (to conserve electricity). I bought small sherpa blankets. However, I have 3 cats and the scratch box kept getting stuck in the Sherpa food. I learned when choosing ceilings to buy only smooth material. Four winters ago I bought a nylon sleeping bag to keep me warm at night. Outside. It was light and warm, but not breathing. I woke up drenched in sweat. Then I bought a sub-zero cotton sleeping bag. I weighed 9 pounds and was breathing. If I kept it buttoned up, it would take 10-15 minutes to warm up. When I woke up I was wet with sweat again. When I opened the bag the air circulated but it became a blanket not a bag. Since I'm 6ft 2in, even a very tall sleeper is a short blanket. If you pull it up to your chin, cold air gets into your legs. This winter I tried this king size comforter. I've been using it for a week now. I love it and 3 cats love it. For reasons I don't understand, the cats didn't seem to like the sleeping bag. They kept trying to push him away to find a place to lie. The day I took it out of the box I noticed that within an hour all 3 cats were sleeping on it. They love it even if I'm not among them! ! ! At night I use a large 5.6 lb duvet with this king size duvet on top (7.7 lbs). As soon as I lie down, all 3 cats run to get a good seat. When I wake up in the morning I'm warm enough, but I don't sweat at all. It's hard to understand why this duvet is so different from a sleeping bag in sub-zero temperatures. The duvet weighs 7.7 pounds and the sleeping bag weighs 9.1 pounds. Since they're the same weight, you'd think they'd be similar in feel and warmth. However, despite being cotton, the sleeping bag feels the same as a Carhart canvas overall. Super hard, very heavy and hard (but warm). This duvet feels super soft and very light, like a layer of magical warmth that you can barely feel. When I wake up in the morning, I don't sweat at all. Being a king size, when I pull them up to my chin, so much hangs past my legs that very little cold air gets to my feet. When I lie down, after 5 minutes the blankets get warm and the cats come running. Then we all sleep like stones. Although it weighs 7.7 pounds and has the warmth of a winter blanket, it feels very light (like it's just a 3 pound blanket). I don't understand it, but it feels good on cold nights. I wish I had received this many years ago. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE TRYING TO STAY IN A STUPID HOUSE! ! !
