Review on Taylor Made 31013 Economy Fender by Timothy Castillo

Poor Quality Control

Grand Pianos (White) generally met expectations with one important exception. It is clear that the molds from which these wings are made are either worn out or poorly made. All fenders have an excessive "burr" - a plastic protrusion outside the mold along the line joining the two halves of the mold (sometimes called a seam). In such cases, the manufacturer may repair or replace the mold(s). Meanwhile, "crop tools" are often used to precisely trim off annoying excess material in one quick, usually automatic, motion. However, with every wing purchased, it is noticeable that no edge stamp was used. Instead, someone manually trimmed off the excess plastic, leaving a very jagged (and unsightly) edge. Worse, the plastic is dented in many places, making the wall thinner than it should have been. With thinner walls, there is an increased chance that the wing will fail (flap) and become largely unusable. At best, the lifespan of these wings has been greatly reduced. For comparison, I bought the same size wing from Shoreline (Taylor Made products are usually cheaper than Shoreline, so I bought Shoreline at a much lower price than Taylor Made). The Shoreline Fender is obviously made from much better molds than Taylor Made products. There is no excess burr, and the burr that occurs is cut off perfectly. In addition, the design and appearance of the Shoreline fenders appear to be better than Taylor Made products. All fenders are the same air pressure (PSI), but the Shoreline plastic is softer to the touch. This can be negative if you think the result will be a less durable wing; In fact I see this as another benefit as it makes the wing more flexible and less prone to cracking (and in turn popping). Overall I would NOT recommend this product. Look at shoreline.
