Review on πŸ’‘ Ensenior Ultra Thin LED Recessed Downlight - High Brightness for Industrial Electrical Applications by Awiwi Swift

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was skeptical but SUPER impressed

So I don't usually compromise on lighting. I've installed many conventional 6" lights around the house using relatively expensive LED trim kits and have been generally pleased with the results. When I stumbled across these and found they were about half the price of 6 inch cans of LED bulbs I crossed my fingers and bought 30 for our basement. First, they are well-designed devices. Someone put a lot of thought into this design. They are very easy to install with basic tools. You'll need 1/2" knockout clips and that's it, save on wires, switches, etc. Most impressively, they can be placed anywhere on the ceiling, no matter where your joists are, but only on new installations (before gluing drywall ).. I pre-installed the ballast boxes before hanging the drywall. No matter where you need the brackets or the position of my joists, the brackets will fit depending on how the clamping mechanism works. An example of a seemingly problematic beam arrangement is See photo. However, this is not a problem for new installations. However, this is not possible for retrofits as the ballast box is slightly larger than the hole provided for some joist positions. To upgrade you will definitely need to move off the joists keep away. In terms of light output, I'm happy, but I'm not entirely sure if they put out the advertised lumens. I h but glasses of the same nominal capacity at a slightly greater distance in a different room and the overall glow appears to be the same. I chose a 4 foot by 4 foot spacing in the photo and am happy with the results. Better too much light and darker than too little. I used a 4-1/8" hole saw and it's perfect for the job. The lights come with a built in gasket, which is great if there's an uninsulated space above them, but this causes the Light fixtures don't sit quite flush with the ceiling. It's nothing to complain about, but I'm picky. As this was a basement renovation, I removed the caulk and they fit snugly against the ceiling. This is a very clean look. The recommended Lutron fixtures Dimmers work fine no flicker and they dim quite a lot My only suggestion to the manufacturer is to either allow for a longer length of cable between the ballast and the fixture, or to provide an option to purchase an extension cable For new installations the light should be less than being a foot away from the ballast In some cases this wasn't an option for me so I needed extensions that were very hard to come by were relatively cheap when I finally found them from another supplier. All of this is absolutely worth every penny. You can't go wrong with these lights when planning ahead for new installations. Should work fine when retrofitting and would be ideal for drop ceilings. All 30 bulbs tested when they arrived and all worked with no problems. Can't comment on durability as my bulbs last less than 40 hours. Assuming their durability is consistent with the design of this product, I don't expect to ever need to replace them.

Pros
  • Highest industry standard
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
