I researched this and watched a youtube video to assess the likelihood of hair tangles. I've seen videos of people with VERY thick/curly hair using this with no problems so I bit the bullet. I'm usually the kind of person who usually sees negative reviews and scoffs because so many things happen due to user error. let me tell you it's not user error. This can happen to you if you don't have a pixie cut or less. Any length of hair is affected. I decided to stop the massage, but when I decided to turn off the device, it suddenly became very tangled in my hair (obviously very close to the roots) and when I tried to pull it out, it literally took small pieces with it. There was no way to unravel it. He pulled out all the tangled hair even though I tried to be gentle. And when I looked at what was peeling off, I saw that it was sticky. I had a freshly washed and dried head. This device sprayed lube into my hair when I tried to take it off my head, which tangled my hair and made it easier to pull out. I bought this because I am a cancer survivor and dealing with very very slow hair loss/regrowth related to treatment, every hair counts. I was hoping to stimulate my scalp to get more blood flow to encourage the follicles to wake up again, instead I got the bump you see in the picture and pain in my scalp. I could just cry right now. It may not seem like a lot to you, but it is a lot to me. I was careful about it and my worst fears came true. Do what you want but understand that at the end of the day it's a powerful electronic device that can cause harm, it's no wonder it's not for weak or brittle hair, it REALLY gets tangled and these handheld massagers with Honestly, silicone teeth are the safest bet. I sincerely hope this thing hasn't uprooted anything.
