The handle is firmly attached - other similarly designed copper mugs I've had suffered from a loose handle that eventually failed, but I'm sure that won't be the case with these mugs. The sides of the mug are thick enough to resist dents and warping, and the outer coating has withstood all scratches from handling and use to date. Although I usually hand wash these types of mugs, a few friends put them in my dishwasher while my attention was on someone else. I was pleased to see that the outer coating fully survived the wash cycle. 5 stars - I will be buying more of these mugs. Completely equip your home bar. Highly recommended.
