I bought this as a gift for my nephew and also for my own son. They are 14 months and 11 months old. You're entering a phase where pin laying is really exciting. The most troubling issue was that when we removed the staples from their pins when opening, the entire base leached out. It wiped off easily but didn't seem safe for small children who still put things in their mouths. The colors don't match. Pink and red are not the same. Yellow and orange are not the same. When a toy attempts to teach gradient colors, it is not intuitive, educational, or successful in that endeavor. She is much smaller than I expected for her age. The smallest pieces posed a choking hazard. It was not a gift. The box looked like scrap. The shapes made no sense and didn't match the base except for the color. In the end I returned both. It was just cheap junk sold as educational wooden toys.
