Review on Review: Acer B276HUL Aymiidprz Widescreen Backlight 2560X1440 with Built-In Speakers and HD Quality by Mike Davis

Bought this monitor for all the connectivity and WQHD resolution without the expense of an Apple monitor. I'm using Acer on a new 15" MacBook Pro and I love it. Full resolution seems to be achieved via HDMI, but I have a Displayport connection for comparison. The PIP option is interesting but doesn't allow you to mix sources and customize as far as I can tell. One input needs to be connected to the display port(?). Text still doesn't fit on a Mac's retina display, but it looks damn good and has loads of real life. I'm closing it also hooks it up to a PS TV to stream my PS4 from the living room, and it looks great in 1080p too (though you'll have to fiddle with the settings to get the full-screen image every time you change resolutions). ).The sound is HORRIBLE however. It sounds like an old Sony Walkman speaker from the 80's. I ordered an HDMI connection which splits the audio part of the signal into a 3.5mm jack so that speakers and/or a good I bought it refurbished or downgrading it to 4 stars (or more if I can't find another sound option) would have been a hassle. External speakers still sound great when used with a Mac, but they freeze this monitor when some other audio/video sources are connected. I don't understand why you only connect "audio input" to these speakers. With all the input options this monitor has, it begs you to run other media sources through it, and any "audio out" connection with some custom source storage settings would be really nice. The design is okay, but when it's on you don't look at the box. Tilt, swivel and height are infinitely and easily adjustable, but there is no swivel, so prepare your table accordingly. All in all, this isn't a $1,000 monitor. Assuming you don't need sound (or have a workaround plan) or just use it as your computer's main or second display, this is a good deal. This is a luxurious monitor for 3D modeling, photography and design, desktop or console gaming, movie watching and general media consumption. It has changed the way I perceive my office environment. Just buy it (Walkman sold separately). sean
